World Osteoporosis Day 2011 - Delhi
WOD was celebrated i by ISBMR in association with Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), on 20th October, 2011 at New Delhi. A brief of the event was broadcast on All India Radio and FM fever.
The following activities were held during this event;
- Bone health check up- A team of seven doctors led by Dr Dinesh K Dhanwal, the Organising Secretary held a bone clinic.
- One peripheral DXA and one Ultrasound bone Densitometry were installed (courtesy Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences) at the venue for performingBMD testing. Over 250 subjects underwent BMD and were given medical advise.
- High calcium dietary local food items were displayed and a team of three dieticians gave consultations to people visiting the venue.
- Public was served high calcium milk products as refreshments during the clinic. . Lunch was also served to all present during the event.
- A YOGA group was invited to give yoga demonstration to the public.
Public lectures were delivered about osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency by Drs Raman Marwah and Ambrish Mithal - The chief guest at the event was Mr Anshu Prakash, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Delhi.
- The star attraction of this event was Padma Shree Santosh Yadav, a woman who holds a world record of climbing Mt Everest twice in one year.
- An unbreakable embrace was created at the stage by the dignitaries to highlight role of bone strength for prevention of osteoporosis.
- All the participants were given caps with IOF, ISBMR and MAMC logo on these and then balloons were released in the sky to mark the start of long term commitment for the cause of osteoporosis.
