World Osteoporosis Day 2014 - Mumbai
SevenHills Hospital, Mumbai celebrated World Osteoporosis Day 2014. Dr Hemalata Arora, MD,DNB, Vice President-Medical Services and Dr Deepak Jagiasibava, Clinical Densitometrist, Member ISBMR (Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research) stressed the need of mass education and highlighting the importance of natural exposure to sunlight, exercise, dietary supplementation of calcium, Vitamin D and cessation of smoking.
Dr Hemalata announced the conceptualisation of “Fracture Registry”- a tool to identify in-house patients from various departments. The system will be intelligent, self-populating and evolving. it will identify the gaps in demographics and highlight diseases which are considered high risk for osteoporosis. The registry will be able to communicate to at-risk individuals and provide an option for help.
Dr Jagiasibava invited interested young technology students to come forward to develop a technology team to design an iOS / Android app for distribution to Indian masses. This tool will allow any person with access to this App to alert the fracture registry individuals exposed to high risk and self populate the same. We wish to have robust data to study the pattern and distribution of osteoporosis in Indian cities.
