13th Annual Conference of ISBMR - 10th 12th November 2017, Chandigarh - Scientific Report
The 13th National Congress of Indian Society for Bone & Mineral Research (ISBMR-2017) was held on 10th-12th November, 2017 at Lecture Theatre-1, Nehru Hospital PGIMER, Chandigarh. ISBMR2017 organized by Department of Endocrinology, PGIMER, Chandigarh collaboration with Indian Society for Bone & Mineral Research, New Delhi. Around 300 delegates from all over world including six International Faculty (from USA, Belgium, UK) and many eminent national speakers from all over India participated in ISBMR-2017.
Day-1 Pre-Congress held on 10th November, 2017 at lecture theatre-1, PGIMER, Chandigarh, it was started at 11:00 AM. The program started with workshop on Bone Biomechanics, moderated by Dr. Deepak Vashishth, USA & Dr. Navin Kumar, IIT Ropar. The workshop cum symposium: Metabolic bone disorders started in post lunch session.
We had Quiz for DM/ DNB Residents as well as for Basic Science students of different institutes, concurrently occurring in Lecture Theatre-2 & Lecture Theatre-3, PGIMER, CHD. The quiz had two rounds, first round had written MCQ for qualifying for final round. The final round of quiz was held on Day-2 on 11th November, 2017.
The workshop cum symposium : Metabolic Bone Disorders, started with first talk of Dr. Satinath Mukherjee, IPGMER, Kolkata on “How to approach metabolic bone disorders”. The next talk of Dr. Mahesh Prakash, PGIMER, Chandigarh was on “Radiology in metabolic bone disorders”. Dr. Ashwani Sood, PGIMER, CHD talked on “Scintigraphic signatures in metabolic bone disorders”. After tea break, Dr. G Nirmal Raj, PGIMER, CHD delivered a talk on “MBD: Orthopedician perspectives”. Dr. Uma Nahar, PGIMER, CHD, deliberated on “The silver lining in the dark clouds in metabolic bone disease-A histopathologist’s perspective. Dr. Navin Kumar, IIT Ropar delivered talk on “Bone Biomechanics in osteoporosis”.
The quiz first round result was declared at the end of symposium and final round of quiz was held on day-2 (11th November, 2017).
Day 2 (11th November, 2017) – The registration of national congress started at 7:30 AM. The national congress started with lamp lighting with Saraswati Vandana. The inaugural address was given by Dr. Anil Bhansali, PGIMER, CHD. The 13th national congress started with nine unique clinical case presentations of 15minutes from various medical institutions.
(The first case presented, on “Difficult to manage hypophosphatemic rickets patients by Dr. Tushar Bandgar, KEM Hospital, Mumbai. The case on “Hypophosphatemic osteomalacia in neurofibromatosis type 1 may be mediated by FGF23 was presented by Dr Saroj Sahoo , SGPGI , Lucknow. Dr Prem Narayanan, BHU, Varanasi presented a case on hypophosphatemic rickets. The next case on tumoral calcinosis was presented by Dr Abhamoni Baro,Gauhati Medical college & Hospital , Guwahati. Dr Kripa Cherian , CMC , Vellore talked on Paget’s disease. Dr Abhilasha Garg, PGIMER,CHD presented a case on “Young boy with multiple spine fractures’’ After tea, Dr. Rakhi Malhotra, AIIMS, New Delhi delivered a talk on “A unique case of Dent’s phenotype with renal cell carcinoma- Is there a hidden association?”. Dr.Nimisha Jain spoke on “MEN-1”, Dr. Subrata Chakrabarti, IPGMER, Kolkata talked on “Unusual cause of renal tubular acidosis.)
Dr. Sushil Gupta, SGPGI, Lucknow delivered MMS Ahuja Oration titled “Postmenopausal osteoporosis: Newer insights in pathogenesis” and session was chaired by President-Dr. Manoj Chadha, Mumbai & Dr. R J Dash, Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Manoj Chadha, Mumbai delivered on “Bone health in pregnancy”. Moreover, We accepted 50 abstract for poster and oral free paper of clinical Residents & basic science students. During the lunch time, Executive Committee meeting was held on Day-2, as well as Poster presented by clinical residents & basic science students from different medical institutions.
The ISBMR congress had multiple symposium on related to bone health following name of symposium:
Symposium-1: Sclerotic Bone Disease
Symposium-2: Vitamin-D
Symposium -3: Osteoporosis
These included many more talks related to paget’s disease, newer treatment for the rare bone disease, vitamin-D supplementation in pregnancy, nutrition & calcium mapping and how to convert old bone into new bone. Many international & national speakers participated in symposium session. Our International Speakers (Dr. Subhash Kukreja, Dr. Stuart Ralston, Dr. Wim Wan Hul, Dr.D.S Rao, Dr. Ruban Dhaliwal & Dr. Deepak Vashishth) & National speakers immensely contributed in the discussions. Basic focus was on metabolic bone disorders. General Body Meeting (GBM) conducted on day-2. Concurrently Final Quiz round of quiz for clinical residents & basic science students was completed (6PM, LT-1, PGIMER, CHD).
Day- 2 (11th November, 2017) evening proceeded with cultural programme organized by ADITI (Association of Diabetes in Tricity (Young), it is a Social Support Group for young diabetes), which had various programs like skit on Diabetes, solo dance, Bhangra etc. performed by T1DM patients. The documentary on osteoporosis released.
Day-3 (12th November, 2017), started with Meet the professor, Dr. Stuart Ralston-UK, delivered talk on “Adult Onset Hypophosphatesia”. Concurrently the various Oral free papers were presented by clinicians & Basic Science students.
SPS Teotia oration was delivered by Dr. Wim Van Hul, Belgium on oration entitled”Next generation sequencing to identify known and novel genes for bone disorders”. After that, Dr. Ritu Trivedi spoke on “Potential interplay between obesity and bone health”, Dr. Sailesh Lodha delivered talk on insights from Indian PHPT Registry (www.indianphptregistry.com)
The Symposium-4: Bone & Diabetes included various talk about bone quality, treatment of osteoporosis & anti diabetic medication and osteoporosis.
The last day of Congress, Award distributed to clinicians & Basic Science students, for oral free paper, Quiz and poster presentations. The first, second & third prize were given for Poster presentation, oral free paper & Quiz competition to students.
Valedictory function & vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sanjay K Bhadada, Organizing Secretary of ISBMR-2017.
