World Osteoporosis Day 2011 – Bengaluru

An Educational Health Initiative on Osteoporosis was organized by Dr.Mythri Shankar (ISBMR) on 20th October 2011 – commemorating World Osteoporosis Day 2011 at Apollo International Hospitals, Bannerghatta Main Road, Bangalore.

An awareness creating event on Bone Health around a “sports theme” at which various Sports Champions from different fields (Cricket,Tennis,Badminton, Golf, Swimming, Hockey etc) participated in this event.

Padmashree Syed Kirmani, Javagal Srinath, BS Chandrashekar, GK Vishwanth (TT), Arcahna V and Ajay CD (Tennis) were also present and participated in the universal campaign of “Unbreakable Embrace for Unbreakable bones”. Ancillary or “support” staff in various sports fields like Fitness Trainers, Exercise Physiologists, Coaches etc were also educated about the importance of bone health and its integral significance in physical performance.

This event was structured to spread awareness and general information on the disease, on how to identify people at risk who get this early and how to prevent it with good diet. Lifestyle modification and Fall prevention strategies were also discussed.
